How it works

It recovers the heat your home already paid for

  1. 1
    Warm air is drawn out
A single fan extracts used air at around 22°C from the bathrooms, en-suites and kitchen.
  2. 2
    Fresh air comes in
The slight negative pressure draws fresh air through discreet wall vents in the other rooms.
  3. 3
    The heat is recovered
The inverter driven compressor takes the energy out of that air before it leaves the building, at around minus 15°C.
  4. 4
    Your home gets it back
That energy heats your radiators or underfloor heating and the hot water in the built in cylinder.

Works with radiators or underfloor heating, piped as normal. Weather compensation sets the flow temperature from the outdoor sensor and your heat curve, and myUplink lets you or your installer check the system from a phone.

S735-7 ErP figures are from the S735-7 E data sheet. Energy classes are from NIBE's product page. For the S735C with active cooling, see below.

NIBE S735C

The same S735, with active cooling built in

For homes that overheat in summer, the S735C adds a cooling function to heating, hot water and ventilation. Available as S735C-4 and S735C-7, each in CU, E and R versions.

Fact check

Heard something about the S735? Here is what the documents say.

Things people sometimes get told about exhaust air heat pumps, answered with the published figures.

You may hear"Exhaust air heat pumps aren’t efficient."
The factsThe S735-4 has a seasonal space heating efficiency of 187% and the S735-7 177% at 35°C. Both are energy class A+++ at 35°C and A++ at 55°C.

You may hear"It will be noisy in an apartment."
The factsIndoor sound power is 42 dB(A) for the S735-4 and 44 dB(A) for the S735-7, tested to EN 12102-1. The S735-7 is Quiet Mark certified.
Source: ErP data sheets
You may hear"The refrigerant is a high impact F-gas."
The factsThe S735 uses R290, a natural refrigerant with a GWP of 3. A 420 g charge equals 1.26 kg of CO₂. NIBE has used R290 since 1998.

You may hear"There won’t be enough hot water."
The factsA 180 litre stainless steel cylinder is built in, with an XL tap profile and up to 264 litres of hot water at 40°C.
Source: NIBE S735 product page
You may hear"It’s only an extract fan."
The factsOne unit provides heating, hot water and continuous ventilation, with active cooling on the S735C. It runs radiators or underfloor heating with weather compensation.
Source: Installer manual
You may hear"You can’t get parts or support in Ireland."
The factsUnipipe has been sole agent for NIBE across all 32 counties since 2000, has over 26 years of NIBE experience, holds spare parts in Ireland for every machine supplied since 2000, and runs a dedicated NIBE service team.
Source: Unipipe service desk
You may hear"It’s hard to model in DEAP."
The factsWorked DEAP data entry examples are published for both the S735-4 and the S735-7, alongside the ErP data sheets your assessor needs.
Source: DEAP data entry examples
You may hear"It won’t keep up in cold weather."
The factsThe S735 heats from the warm air inside your home, not the outdoor air, and weather compensation adjusts the flow temperature as outdoor conditions change. A 3.5 kW immersion is built in as backup.

Track record

NIBE's first heat pump was an exhaust air heat pump. That was 1981.

Unipipe's first NIBE exhaust air installation was in 2000, and we have supported every generation since. We carry spare parts in Ireland for every machine supplied since 2000, run our own team of NIBE service engineers, and take weekly deliveries from Markaryd, Sweden.
